Overview

In today's rapidly changing and increasingly competitive environment, strategic thinking has become a key requisite of management and leadership roles in the public sector. Strategic thinking is a richer and more creative way of thinking about and managing the key issues and opportunities facing your organisation. This course will introduce participants to strategic thinking and, through application of a number of processes, will provide them with a range of tools, along with the skills and confidence to approach their roles more strategically.

Course Content

This course defines strategic thinking, both generally and in the public sector, and then outlines steps for developing it. It covers scenario thinking, the development of strategic relationships, the art of reading and responding to the environment, and the ability to communicate vision and goals. It includes strategic thinking tools and processes, ongoing evaluation and refining, and a focus on making it all work.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course attendees should be able to:

  • undertake strategic thinking on both big picture and day to day issues
  • undertake environmental and stakeholder analyses
  • utilise scenario thinking
  • evaluate and refine strategy
  • engage people in a range of strategic thinking processes
