Overview

The key to survival and success in workplaces is to be able to communicate and express yourself effectively, whether speaking up in a team, managing clients, or with your manager or co-workers. Doing this in an assertive way is vital, but is not always easy. This course will help you to look at the elements that constitute assertive communication, and to apply a range of associated skills. There will be many opportunities to practise in a supportive environment and you will come away with a plan for your continued development and action. You'll see the difference!

Course Content

This course defines assertiveness and explores why it is necessary. It identifies common behaviours and examines the elements of assertive behaviour. It focuses on skill building and practice, culminating in development of individual action plans for participants.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course attendees should be able to:

  • demonstrate awareness of their own assertive communication patterns
  • be assertive in the workplace
  • demonstrate an increased awareness of their personal strengths, leading to more conscious and creative ways of actually responding in real time
  • display higher levels of motivation and confidence
  • demonstrate the verbal and communication skills necessary to be assertive
  • take away an action plan for continued assertive behaviour and for becoming who they want to be
