Overview

Business analysis is not restricted to the private sector. It's a key skill requirement in the public sector, and essential in ensuring efficient delivery of services and utilisation of resources. This course will examine the role of business analysis and how it can add focus and direction to many organisational projects and programs. Business analysis will be discussed as a framework for addressing a range of change and improvement issues. Practical examples of various methods and techniques will be used.

Course Content

This course will explore the role of the business analyst in the organisation, cover the use of the how, what, when, where and why method of analysis, and address the importance of choosing a business analysis method that will benefit the organisation in terms of the people, process, culture and technology dimensions. It will focus on identifying the needs of individuals and groups in relation to change, including all stakeholders, and on reviewing change, communication and education. It will consider the impacts of the chosen method, along with ways to develop the components of a change management plan review and a communication plan.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course attendees should be able to:

  • identify the requirements for effective business analysis
  • understand the common risks and obstacles to changes to business process, and techniques available for overcoming them
  • understand the context of holistic organisational improvement and change processes (in which business analysis is one of the key steps)
  • identify the requirements for effective business process improvement
  • identify where to apply various approaches and techniques for business process improvement, including process mapping, data collection analysis and group work
